Our Powder Coating Process
At Dalby Powder Coating, we follow a meticulous powder coating process to ensure superior results for each project.
Our approach involves multiple steps, including:
- 1. Surface Preparation: We thoroughly clean and prepare each part using a 2 Stage Iron Phosphate wash that creates a zirconium-based conversion layer which is an excellent anchorage base for powder coating achieving 500+ hours salt spray resistance. Additional surface preparation using shot blasting is available if required.
- 2. Drying: Parts are thoroughly dried in a combination convection/radiation oven before entering the powder application phase.
- 3. Powder Application: Using product size recognition, automatic electrostatic spray guns evenly apply the powder coating, ensuring uniform coverage with minimal waste.
- 4. Curing: Following application, the parts enter a laminar up-draught high temperature curing oven to fuse the powder into a hard, durable finish.
- 5. Inspection: Each item is rigorously inspected for quality and consistency before leaving our facility. Testing includes dry film thickness, scratch adhesion testing, pencil hardness testing and a drop test.
